We are delighted that Karl Hudspith will be leading our next Brookes Careers talk at 6pm on Tuesday 15th June.
Karl rowed in two Henley finals at Brookes and was in the U23 team all three years, winning a bronze in the men's eight in 2010 and a gold at FISU. After leaving Brookes Karl completed a PhD at Oxford where he won three boat races and was President of the OUBC. He competed for Great Britain in the men's pair at the World Cup in 2013.
Karl studied Biology at Brookes, before completing a PhD in Clinical Neurosciences at Oxford. During that time he helped develop a clinical diagnostic test for inherited blindness using next-generation DNA sequencing technologies. He then moved to the US where he was a post-doctoral research fellow at Johns Hopkins School of Medicine. His research there aimed to develop a stem-cell based treatment for inherited blindness.
After eight years in academic research Karl left to join the law firm of Wilson Sonsini in their Washington DC office as a scientific advisor. Karl is now a patent agent at the firm and in part-time law school at Georgetown. Karl works with early stage life science startup companies in the medical device, biotech, and pharmaceutical spaces. Karl drafts and prosecutes patent applications for his clients, and represents them during investment diligences.
Karl will be talking about:
• How to search for careers, make connections, and request informational interviews.
• How to present your CV, resume, and LinkedIn profiles.
• The advantages and disadvantages of graduate studies.
The Oxford admissions process and trialing for the boat race.
